FAQs

We get it — you want to know what makes Cement Tile so special before you bring it into your space. Here’s everything you need to know, straight from the experts at Rustico Tile & Stone.

Each Cement tile is a small work of art — 100% handcrafted by skilled artisans in Mexico. These tiles are made in three visible layers, creating strength, depth, and beauty that mass-produced tiles simply can’t match. Every piece carries subtle variations in color and texture, making your space as unique as you are.

The three layers:

  • Top Layer (Wear Layer): A blend of white Portland cement, marble powder, and natural pigments for color, brightness, and long-lasting wear.
  • Middle Layer: A fine sand and cement mortar that reinforces the surface, giving the tile its strength under pressure.
  • Bottom Layer: A porous mix that adds impact resistance and durability.

The result? Cement tile that’s both stunning and strong — ready to elevate floors, walls, stairways, and more, indoors or out.

It’s all in the craftsmanship. Each tile is poured, pressed, and cured by hand using rich cement mixtures and a hydraulic press for superior density. After curing in water and drying under the sun, every tile is inspected individually for quality.

These artisanal details make Rustico Cement Tile a favorite for residential and commercial projects alike — from kitchen backsplashes to courtyard floors. They bring timeless beauty to architectural styles such as Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, Santa Fe, and Contemporary.

The process is pure craftsmanship:

  1. Natural pigments are mixed and poured into a mold divider to create the pattern.
  2. Once filled, the divider is removed and the first layer is backed with a fine sand-and-cement mixture.
  3. A third, porous layer is added, and the tile is hydraulically pressed.
  4. Tiles cure in water for 24 hours, then dry in the sun for another day before inspection and packing.

Because they’re made by hand, slight variations in color or texture are part of the beauty — not defects. We recommend ordering all tiles for your project at once to ensure consistent shading.

Yes — Cement tiles are naturally sustainable. They’re made with 100% natural materials, emit no pollutants, and are completely recyclable. They’re not fired in kilns, which means lower energy use and zero flammable materials. Artisanal and eco-conscious — that’s a combination we love.

Very. When properly sealed, Cement tiles are compact, waterproof, and built to last for decades. They’re ideal for high-traffic areas and hold up beautifully indoors or outdoors.

Cement Tile adds depth and character to almost any design. Use it for:
